I was driving early one morning and the fog was thick and heavy, like pea soup! Peering through the fog was difficult but driving in it was worse, I couldn’t see the road in front of me! It made me think of our lives. For our graduates, they are facing a season of unknowns. What does God have for their journey and what should the next step be? Some parents may find themselves empty nesters, what is next? I have a friend who is walking through a divorce and moving out of state, what is next? There is another friend who had a devastating stroke, what is next? These are all unseen paths before us.
The home schooling journey is so much like this too. It may not be anything as cataclysmic as a hard health issue or divorce but what about what curriculum you will choose for your students next year? Just like me, you may have it all mapped out for that second or third child but it may not work for them and you are back to square one. What do we do? 1 Chronicles 16:11 encourages us to,
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.”
We, as finite humans, really do not know what is on that unseen path, but God sure does. He has a plan for our children and for us too. We just need to seek Him on a continual basis.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to,
“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”
This is a very well known verse but it is so relevant. We have to trust the Lord with our children’s futures, our futures, our friend’s next steps, our friend’s healing. We have to acknowledge that we do not understand our futures and we really do not know what is on that unseen path, but God does. Lean on God! He will direct our paths as we acknowledge Him. I love this verse because it takes all the worry out of life. I trust God, not my own understanding and He directs my path!
I pray that as you walk through the next few months and end this school year that you would seek His face continually and trust Him for the next steps on your unseen path.
