I can’t believe another year has come and gone! 2019, what will it bring? We can ponder and guess but only the Lord knows. “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
This is where trusting the Lord comes in. It is so easy to say and so hard to do. Proverbs 3:5-6 is such a well known verse but such a great one to hold on to each day. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” This past year the Lord brought about a method of being purposeful and it has helped me to plan each week with the tasks at hand. It is called the Passion Planner. Prioritizing my life and what God has placed on my heart, and then to put it into action, to plan out my months, weeks, days and even hours has been huge! As we focus on the year ahead we should resolve to be purposeful in what the Lord directs us to do. What will that look like for you and your family? Will it be to focus more on discipleship for each child? Will it be to read aloud to your children each day? Will it be to lessen the busyness and “just say no” to the things that are coming at you but are not ‘the best’ for your family right now? Perhaps you will need to do this for the month of December. This happened to me this past week. I am preparing for a vacation and needed to say ‘no’ to some really delightful events, but I knew that in order to be ready with some sanity for my vacation I had to hunker down, plan out my days and stick to the plan. Of course, in God’s wisdom, He threw in a few curve balls but I also resolved to pray and put people’s needs before ‘things’.
As you look at this Christmas season, I pray your focus will stay on Jesus and the reason for the celebration. Bring God glory in your life, be “Jesus’ to those around you, including your drive around the city: let people in ahead of you on the road with a smile, not a grimace (I am trying to do this!); talk with the people in the long check out lines and share Jesus’ love with them; bring a little gift to your neighbors with a gospel tract. You never know with whom God wants you to share the gospel, and His love.
